<p>how strict is Umich about going over the word limit?
what is acceptable for a 250 word essay?
270? 300?</p>
<p>My 250 word essays were 270 and 290 words. I'd try and keep it below 300, as clear and concise as possible.</p>
<p>my essay is 650 words. it says on the application </p>
<p>[A] Describe a setback that you have faced. How did you resolve it? How did the outcome affect you? If something similar happened in the future, how would you react? (approximately 500 words)</p>
<p>should i try to cut it down? im having a really hard time taking anything out. is it that big a deal if its too long ... it still fits on 1 page with 1 inch margins and size 12 times new roman font</p>
<p>okay i got it down to 600 is that okay?</p>
<p>I don't think you should fret when it's 100 words over! They're not going to sit there and count exactly how many words you have. It's more like "okay this essay is over a page...ugh". If it looks like around 500 pages then you're fine. Don't risk taking out important information in your essay just because you went over 500.</p>
<p>So...is 430 words too long for a 250 word prompt?</p>

<p>hey i don't want to start a new thread for this, but i called the admissions office today to make sure they had everything, and i found out 3 of my teachers sent long letters (14 pages total) to UM even though I told them to send them to my counselor who was going to send only one rather than all three. will this affect me negatively??</p>
<p>Oh no...14 pages?? oh wait all 3 together. But the forms were only 2 pages! THe worst that could happen is you annoy the readers and they just trash your app.</p>
<p>i think 14 pages includes 3 teachers and the counselor...i will feel awful if this affects my decision because i understood the requirements but just had miscommunication with my teachers because i was trying to get everything out in august, which i did.. ahhhhhhh</p>

<p>One counselor recommendation and one teacher recommendation are required for all freshman applicants.</p>
