Essay letter A

So I'm at a crossroads of sorts. I'm applying to UT as a transfer and they require two essays. I've got the personal essay written. We had to write about an issue that was important to us which was fine and dandy and I had that. Now I'm back to the Statement of Purpose and I just don't know what to write about. This is what it says on the UT website about this essay:

"The statement of purpose will provide an opportunity to explain any extenuating circumstances that you feel could add value to your application. You may also want to explain unique aspects of your academic background or valued experiences you may have had that relate to your academic discipline. The statement of purpose is not meant to be a listing of accomplishments in high school or a record of your participation in school-related activities. Rather, this is your opportunity to address the admission committee directly and to let us know more about you as an individual, in a manner that your transcripts and the other application information cannot convey."

I've always done well at school but I feel like so has everyone else at UT. I just don't really know what to write about and I don't really have any "extenuating circumstances".

I'm not asking for someone to tell me what to write about but ideas or just questions to help my brain start turning and coming up with ideas would be fabulous.

Thanks!

*Also if anyone would like to read my personal essay and maybe give me some feedback let me know! I'd be forever grateful.

What do you think you can contribute to UT? Basically, why would they want you? Do you have some sort of unique perspective, are you a particular x kind of person, would y in you let you take advantage of some z on campus? You’ve done well, but what makes you stand out? Why would you be a good addition to campus life and the extra-curriculars?

What is something you love? What are you passionate about?

Unfortunately as sad as this sounds there isn’t anything I’m super seriously “passionate” about. I have a basic idea now of what I COULD write about but I don’t know how solid it would be. It’s still a work in progress unfortunately.

Write about why you are the way you are. Stories on the factors that have most influenced your overall development make for good essays!

Thank you all for the ideas! HopefullyAccepted, that is an excellent idea! I didn’t think about that.

PS. I can see where the administration is coming from when they put a 15 post minimum before you can PM anyone but it’s really annoying when someone offers to read your essay and you have to get to 15 posts before you can send it.

PPS. I know that had no relevance to this thread…sorry >< Just an annoyance that I noticed.

Just because I wanted 15 posts so I could FINALLY send PMs…sorry again if this is frowned upon ><

No problem! One of my essays was based off of “The Dead Poet Society.” It’s a movie that definitely influenced my view on public education.
