Essay mistake- how much will this cost me?

At the last moment i made a change in my essay by shifting a sentence from one para to another- the stupid thing- i forgot to delete the sentence and submitted my application. I viewed the essay but as i was hurrying for the deadline didn't notice the mistake.
the essay is fine except that the line is repeated- how much will this effect my app review?
i guess they will view me as careless...:(

Perhaps it could seem like you intended to repeat the line, repetition is a great rhetorical device!

Mistakes happen. If you are otherwise a great candidate, this one repeated sentence will not likely be the deciding factor.

Heck, I accidentally deleted a good chunk of one of my supplement essays (I seriously even deleted the beginning of a sentence and ended up starting the next included sentence with “, but” comma and all) but I still got in EA. Granted, it’s a much less competitive school than those you’re applying to, but you’ll probably be just as fine as you were before. :-)

Best of hopes!

I don’t think they’ll penalize you for minor mistakes like that, they’re not THAT picky - at least, I hope so. I had a similar brainfart on mine.

I think almost everyone eventually finds a mistake in their application (I did!), so you definitely will not be the only one!
