essay not good, retake?

question about SAT essay-

I did well on this January test (2300+), but my essay was really bad. I spent too much time brainstorming and did not use the best examples. I got an 8 on the essay but 770 on the writing section (thank god the curve was good). I was wondering if I need to retake it because my essay grade was pretty low. I have heard from others that I can prove to colleges my writing ability from my application essays. I also write articles for our school magazines/newspaper and outside of school magazines. Do you guys think that’s enough to compensate for my low essay grade?

Thanks! and good luck to everyone!

I’ve heard that the SAT essay barely rewards good writing–it’s more filling up the page, using inflated vocabulary, etc. And 8 isn’t low. I got 8s both times I took it, and compare my “low” essay score with 5s in AP Lang and Lit, national creative writing award, 800 and 780 in Writing section, etc. :stuck_out_tongue:

Take the 2300+ and run!
