will it be looked upon as somewhat lame? what if they figure out what college it is from? I mean, U Chicago's prompts kinda stick out like a sore thumb.

if you write a lame essay, it will look lame. if you write a good one, it will be fine.

I agree with vc08. If it's good, it's good. If it's lame, it's lame. Selection of prompt should not affect admissions..

When I visited the admissions officer said they always recognize a bunch of other schools' essay prompts, but it doesn't matter at all.

Like the others said if it's a good essay, you'll be fine.

i used this prompt and i received a likely letter

I used it last year -- I used the common app's write about what you want essay. Haha and I got in. :-P

I did the same as GetOuttaBuffalo :)

As did I. 10 char.

what if I did option 8 for both the short and long answer? is that pushing it? do you have to choose 2 different prompts?

I believe you have you use 2 different prompts. It said so in the directions.

I used option 8 for my long essay, and I looooved what I wrote. My short one was alright, i'm not too sure about it.

JohnC613: I wanted to use option 8 for both essays, but when I called the admissions office and asked if that was alright, the officer told me that they preferred the free response to only be one essay, and that we answer at least one of their prompts. =/ Maybe yours are fantastic, and they'll make an exception :)

livelovelaugh thanks for your post.
thannks to all in fact
well, I'm done with my app now. I ended up using option 8 for my long and option 4 for my short, and I'm quite happy with the result.
good luck to all who are applying

no problemo :] good luck to you too!
