Essay Question(s)

For #7 it reads, "If you have written an essay for another school's application that you really like, feel free to use it as your short or longer essay for us. Please be sure to tell us (a) what essay you are answering and (b) why you think this essay represents you well (your explanation will not be included in the essay word count)."

Would it negatively affect my application if I submit an essay in which I am praising another school and telling them I would like to attend their college? They do say submit any essay.. But I am just wondering.

Thank you for the help.

Why would you want to do that…is the writing really that good? Or, is it just less work to submit that one?

I would advise against it.

Umm…yes, it would. Even if the writing is “that good.”

Now if you would actually take the time to change that name of whatever school to UNC, and change any specific references, that might be a different story. Still a little shady though.

a lot of people use other essays. it’s not a big deal. the point of an admissions essay for bigger schools like unc is to get to the know the applicant because they cannot hold interviews for everyone, and to see your overall writing skill. if your other essay is good and does those two things, then it is fine.

it will be completely fine as long as you want to shoot yourself in the foot

I did the sane thing. Just change any refrences to the other schools to UNC. good luck.

Yeah, I’m sure it’d boost your chances if you told them how much you REALLYYYYY wanted to attend another school…

Seriously?

UNC provides interesting essay topics because they don’t want to hear the whole “UNC is perfect for me because we’re both perfect” speech. They claim to disregard the applicant’s interest when making an admissions decision. Write another essay… you’ve got a day. write about something you’re passionate about.
