I'm wondering whether my essay topic is appropriate. I got denied admission to MIT last year, so Essay A ("tell us about a situation that seemed like the end of the world...") would fit perfectly. However, I am unsure whether the adcoms will consider this as too pathetic or so...
What do you think?

Personal opinion follows:

I don't consider it a bad topic intrinsically, nor do I think of it as "pathetic" in the emotion-provoking sense.

That being said, of all the horrible experiences in your life, the one from which you learned the most was getting rejected from college? It seems to me like there'd be a MILLION other things I'd write about before I got to that. Sure, being rejected is a horrible experience... but end of the world? There's so much more to you than that! Try to see if you can figure something better to fill that space.

You have plenty of room in the optional sections to discuss what you've done since you last applied... make sure you use this essay to get across as much of the rest of you as possible. :).

That's a great feedback, thanks.
Well, I don't really want to write about this topic (getting rejected from MIT). However, I think that it's the most significant disappointment I've ever had. Well, I'll think about something else...
