Essay Topic?

Hey everyone. Can you just give me some input on this essay topic. Is it not unique enough? I was having a lot of trouble thinking of one. And this event occured. And obviously, at the time it wasnt the first thing to pop into my head, but someone later told me it would be a good admissions essay.

I'm thinking of writing about the first time I did CPR. I'm on the Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and the very first day, I had a call to an 86 year old drowning victim and had to perform CPR and use a defribrillator and everything. I had only been CPR trained the day before. I also had to drive an ambulance that day. I was thinking of opening the essay by "quoting" the sounds of the defibrillator and/or the words of my crewmates as we were rushing to the hospital and performing CPR.

I don't know if this is a good topic. Everytime i try to write the essay, it turns into a depressing piece of garbage. And i don't want my essay to just be a cliche downer. But i think i could make it decent, if I knew it was a decent topic. So tell me what you think!

Trust me, mine’s a downer. :-(

It sounds like you have a great topic. Just go with the flow first and write a few rambling essays of thoughts, then you can edit it stylistically and improve it in your re-drafts.

thank you! i hope your’s isn’t a downer! I’m sure it’ll come out good. I suppose some of the better pieces of writing in history have been a bit somber.

:) Good luck with your writing

you too! and good luck with admissions!
