If the HS essay says no more than 500 words, what is too little. Is 300ish ok? Any btdt is appreciated!

IMO, 300 is too short. Shoot for 400 or just over.

thanks sevendad

300 is generally not recommended unless you have written the essay exceptionally well.

Better write a bit more , IMO you can always think of something interesting to write.

As a former HS teacher I can tell you that if I assigned an essay with a maximum of 500 words, it was code for “as close to 500 words without going over.”

All of the above. It’s probably no surprise to anyone who has suffered through any number of my ponderous posts that I think of a word limit as the number you have to work yourself down to, by using good editing and economy of thoughts. 300 says you didn’t get to the point where you had to be intentional about each word you’ve put in play. And just on average – and guessing wildly – the essays that are in the 450-500 range are probably excellent because every word had to be considered.

Gosh, I had to look up Bunkel bundle. ;)

I definitely agree on prenatal package given the calls to preschool wait lists are made from maternity ward.
Had I known this index earlier, it would have accurately predicted the number of snow days (almost every day) during the commutes to my preschool choice and warned about the five times longer drive than expected from summer visit.
Can Wackenhut Security do anything about natural disaster? Hurricane Sandy and rising sea levels are great concern for the safety of our children.

I’d have to agree with whoever said “work down to 500.” I’d say, shoot for more and then trim and then have one or two others read and trim. Then you have tighter, more concise writing with the most important information popping out of each sentence. No filler words and passive phrasing.
