Am I the only one that find the essays hard to write?
I don't have any idea regarding the future roommate one, and I have no clue what to do with the long essay neither.
any advice?

The roommate essay is the one you can have fun with. Pick some side of your personality that does not show otherwise on the application, and write an essay that makes you more "palpable" and multi-dimentional. It does not have to be a formal letter.

I agree.

What do people associate with you? What do you think is defining about you? You can tell a story that shows something about you, or write like a normal essay. For example, the most important thing to me in high school was being drum major of the marching band, so I wrote the long essay like I was broadcasting my thoughts during a competition.

The key to your essays is passion. What do you really enjoy? What strikes your fancy? What are you curious about? What are you good at? Just giving summaries of your activities isn't good enough because it doesn't give clues about your personality - how you think and how you feel about the world, and how you deal with what happens to you. Saying "I tutored a boy in math for a year and I was very happy because he learned a lot" is not as descriptive as "I felt almost helpless when he didn't grasp a concept because I wanted so much to see that light of understanding; instead of conceding defeat, I explained the concept in many different ways until we found the explanation that clicked."

So, remember that the college wants to know WHO you are more than WHAT you did, and good luck!

thanks all of you for the advices. I hope I'll figure something out :)

thanks for the advice
