Essays

I am applying to U chicago next year and i want to know what type of essays should i write. does anyone have any pointers? Does chicago like random essays or formal ones? if anyone wants to post their essay that would be cool!

bump...............

I was going to suggest you do a search to find that thread with all the essays, but I don't think people should bump after less than 3 hours has passed, so I'm not going.

college89,

You should write the essay that you feel best exemplifies you. Duh.

Unless you're a horrible and uninteresting person....in which case you should write about me.

For the main essay, U of C supplies new prompts each year. These prompts should be available sometime in July I believe. Here is a link to the last few years' essay prompts: http://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/level3.asp?id=376

The other two essays have, I believe, remained the same the last few years. You may get a head start on those.

Respond to Questions 1 and 2 by writing a paragraph or two for each question.

How does the University of Chicago, as you know it now, satisfy your desire for a particular kind of learning, community, and future? Please address with some particularity your own wishes and how they relate to Chicago.

Tell us about a few of your favorite books, poems, authors, films, plays, pieces of music, musicians, performers, paintings, artists,
magazines, or newspapers. Feel free to touch on one, some, or all of the categories listed or add a category of your own.

thanks for your replies!

Thanks for your thanks, cutie

haha thanks for your comment Esquared. if i were i were really really uninteresting i would write my essay about you.

Well, it certainly served me well...I'm a great topic on many different levels

Spiritually, morally, exponentially...

well im sure you are exponentially.... in mathematical terms of course. I actually had an idea of writing my essay about the movie ive been trying to make with my friend. its a long funny story. what was your essay about esquared?

That depends.....there were three.

The first (the one that asks about why you want to go to Chicago) was fairly simple - for my standards that is. The second one I wrote about a William Carlos Williams essay and it was a glorious 500 words. The third was a stream of consciousness rant on "a mind that does not stick".

Mine were last, last minute and probably awkward in many parts, but, like me, I think you'll find writing them quite enjoyable.

I think I posted one of mine in the essay thread jacknjill talks about in that previous post.

cool. i will have to check that out. thanks again.
