Estimates on Profile

OK, so it's been a long time since I did a Profile and I had accurate tax info the last time, but S3 had a couple colleges with Jan 15 deadlines. I estimated fairly accurately although, in fact, my Profile income/AGI/dividend, etc. are slightly high. I'm guessing nothing that would significantly change anything with finaid offices. I just checked and you still can't update Profile online (been that way for several years). Should I just assume the finaid people can use what I've sent them along with an accurate FAFSA? They can see that everything on Profile is alittle bit higher. I've pretty much talked myself into doing nothing about it since it's probably not going to change anything and they did instruct people to estimate. I'm assuming I can "fix" the differences when I add the last two profile schools that don't need Profile for a while. Anybody else just let it ride with fairly close estimates on everything? Oh, we're talking about two thousand dollars lower on AGI in reality and they have an accurate EFC from FAFSA. I won't be full pay and have two overlapping in college for one year so EFC is much lower than what it is for one.

That’s what I’m trying to do: nothing. Except that my figures for this year are a few thousands higher than my estimates and that I did not file FAFSA (international).

It seems like if the member colleges wanted accurate Profiles, they would have CollegeBoard create a form that can be updated, instead they instruct you to estimate and the form is not able to be updated so it must not be terribly critical in my opinion. I haven’t filled one out for a number of years and I guess I thought by now CollegeBoard would have figured out how to write a little script to allow for data changes.

It’s certainly a lot more than a little script and the colleges would have to pay more for the service. So far it would seem the economics aren’t driving that capability.

I emailed three schools about this. One I never heard back from, one said to feel free to fax any updates, but honestly didn’t sound like it was urgent, and one said not to bother as they would pull the correct tax info off the Fafsa.

^^Thanks it makes sense to me that they said “fee free to fax” but didn’t have a specific protocol in place…why utilize an electronic data system then have a secondary procedure that involves paper.

For the $16 a school it sure as heck IS a little script. Even this forum here allows you to easily go back and edit posts, why not the financial aid service that actually costs money?

I called the FA office and said that my actual was really close to the estimate, I estimated higher as well. The woman with whom I spoke said not to worry, just send in any information that is requested through idoc.
