Hello, I am 25% Mexican, and the culture of the area definitely plays a large role in my life, despite how I do not contain many of the physical features. But, I was wondering if I am only supposed to check Mexican on the common application, or if I should check both Mexican and White?

The CA says: "If you wish to be identified with a particular ethnic group, please check all that apply". Therefore you should check both; you will be put into the Hispanic group of applicants for consideration. Also, don't be concerned with how you look physically, they are interested in your association with the Latino culture, not facial characteristics.

Thanks a lot entomom, I was actually worried that for my interviews, if they see that I put down Mexican, but I don't look it (although my dad does), that they would think I was being dishonest. I will put down both, thanks.

Don't worry, my kids are half Asian and half Latino. The oldest one looks like she's "something" ethnic, but it's pretty difficult to figure out exactly what. She did lots of URM programs and interviews and had no problems whatsoever. Her younger sister looks 100% Asian, that should be interesting ;).

BTW, if you're applying to: Rice, Emory, WUSTL, Dartmouth or Vandy, I hope you know about their fly in programs for URMs in the spring. There are many others this fall, but you would have had to apply before now. If you want info, PM me. Good luck!
