So, auditions are done, and now the waiting begins. But here is something that D and I wonder. If one is really interested in a particular college/conservatory, and if one thinks that the audition at that particular place went well, is there anything that one can do to indicate strong interest? Or is it inappropriate to contact the school/teacher following the audition?
I don’t know about writing to the members of the audition panel. However, my D sent thank you e-mails to teachers who she had trial lessons with. In all cases for us, the teachers were in the audition panel and the trial lessons were on the same day or the day after the audition.
I agree with EstherDad; my child sent notes to teachers after trial lessons but not after auditions.
I would agree not to contact the audition panel (unless a teacher pulls the kid aside after the audition to show interest, in them, that might be warranted, does happen), but after a sample lesson follow through is not a bad idea.
Definitely don’t write to the panel. They are busy people–can you imagine how irritating it would be if all auditioners send them correspondence? I would hesitate even to contact after a trial lesson but before acceptance. You don’t want to be tagged as high-maintenance.
I should clarify: my child scheduled trial lessons and campus visits last year, not as part of audition trips.
In that case, an email of thanks makes sense (less so during the onslaught of audition weeks.)
I agree, during audition week you don’t want to do follow through! I do think there may be some value after audition week if you have seen someone and they expressed interest in you, it shows that you are equally interested. I think this would be true if the teacher said something like “I would like to have you in my studio, but I also want to make sure you are seriously thinking about coming here”. A follow on e-mail (after auditions are done!) might be a way to confirm you are interested, especially if this is a sought out teacher.
