I like my hardboiled eggs bi-colored.
BTW, made another batch of eggs in the thingy! I lost count how many in total, but so far, zero explosions.

That sounds very odd–solid colored hard boiled eggs that are prescrambled–not sure how many would want to eat those.
Sounds like the scrambled eggs that come in frozen breakfast sandwiches. Only shaped like an egg.
I gave up on my egg boiler thingy because the top kept sliding off mid-cycle with my new microwave. I never had any eggs explode, but I was always worried about it and it wasn’t any fun making eggs if I had to stand and stare at the microwave the entire time.
However, I have a small counter top steamer [like this](http://www.best-juicers-reviews.good-stuffblog.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/black-and-decker-handy-steamer-user-manual.jpeg) - and after about a week of experimenting I figured out the exact time to steam the eggs in that – and I can easily do more than 4 eggs at a time. With the steamer it is 15 minutes – 10 to steam, then 5 to cool down before putting them in cold water - and eggs come out very nicely – so only a few minutes more than the microwave and of course it uses a lot less power.
In the meantime my latest acquisition from Amazon is a [microwave tortilla warmer](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JQRP2SI?psc=1) – overpriced for what it is, but definitely worth it… 20 seconds in the microwave & the result was heavenly.
And for anyone who wants to scramble eggs in the microwave here is my quick recipe for a single-egg variation on huevos rancheros – I’ve been doing this for awhile:
Crack one egg into a microwave safe custard dish. Stir in about a tablespoon of store-bought pico de gallo sauce (preferably fresh). Put a microwave safe cover over the dish. Zap for 45 seconds (1100 watt – I used to give it 50 minute in my other microwave). The eggs come out yummy and soft-scrambled. I also always butter the dish I use just to keep cleanup easy.
Of course this recipe could be increased – I’m just cooking for one so the single-egg routine works fine, and the custard dish also creates a round egg shape that is perfect for homemade breakfast sandwiches along with an english muffin or bagel. Except that I’m going with tortillas these days.
One more microwave trick, if you want steamed milk for a homemade latte. (I can’t drink coffee any more but I do this with teeccino): I have a little bullet-style blender-- I put about a quarter cup of milk in the blender to aerate it, then heat the stirred up milk in the microwave. [This recipe](http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-froth-milk-for-cappuccinos-in-the-microwave-cooking-lessons-from-the-kitchn-100716) suggest using a shaker rather than a blender, but I’m lazy and the blender is sitting right there by the microwave. It works best to shake/blend the milk first and then heat – I tried heat first, then blend, but that made my blender leak and it didn’t foam up as stiffly that way.
We are egg lovers in our house, mainly scrambled or fried. Since we typically eat breakfast at different times, breakfast is usually an “everybody fend for themselves” meal during the weekdays.
To me, eggs are best done the old school way which is still pretty darn quick- on the stovetop. There’s nothing like a perfectly fried egg or the creamy, soft texture of gently cooked scrambled eggs. I bought this mini t-fal frying pan about a year ago that is PERFECT for cooking one or two eggs and gets a lot of use in our house. My spouse uses it almost daily for breakfast sandwiches. The nonstick works great and its CHEAP. In fact, t-fal nonstick is a great, inexpensive way to go for any sized nonstick frying pan and recommended by America’s Test Kitchen.

NEW item! Got an ECHO from Amazon. Special price if prime member. SO much fun! Still figuring out what “she” can do for us but enjoying it!
I love my Echo… but she’s basically a glorified clock radio. But best clock radio ever. (I mean, it’s really useful to have a voice-activated system when lying in bed in the dark. )
What all does it do?
Finally tried the product which must not be named. The things were so easy to peel. I am glad I bought it.
I just discovered that I am out of those things that become easily peelable… Gotta make a Costco run!
I saw the stainless steel cleaner at Sams Club is anyone is still looking for it.
Had to post this for all you boiled egg fans: http://qz.com/529249/the-best-way-to-boil-an-egg-according-to-science/?utm_source=atlfb
"Then there’s the peeling to consider: While eggs dropped into boiling water risk overcooking on the edges (the whites) before the yolk even solidifies, eggs that start off in cold water fuse the whites to their shells, which makes peeling a mess.
For the best egg, with a tender white and fully cooked yolk, bring water to a boil, gently lower your eggs into the water and let them cook for 30 seconds. Then add ice to lower the temperature, let the water boil up again, and cook for 11 minutes at about 190°F. Delicious."
Thanks!!
I have been using the product-not-to-named to make soft-boiled eggs. No problem, just followed the instructions.
However, it has been a matter of trial and error for hard-boiled eggs. I buy extra large eggs which probably skewed things somewhat. Anyway, got my first perfect batch last night. For my microwave (1200w) with four extra large eggs, it worked by cooking for eight minutes and letting the eggs sit for an extra five minutes. Perfect, easy to peel eggs.
For what it’s worth, I’m glad I bought the thingy despite having some less that stellar results with the hard boiled ones to start (though always edible.)
I enjoy the thing, too. I have a 1300w microwave that has a rotating turntable inside. Strangely, when cooking four, two eggs are less done than the other two. And if I only make 2, one is less done.
If you make two versus four how do you adjust the time, if at all?
Silicone spatulas. They are amazing.
I want one!
Madison85: I’d adjust the time till all eggs cook completely. I don’t think any of the eggs would overcook.
I was going for soft- or medium boiled.
Well, I see our number one favorite is still riding high at Amazon. I wonder what the Nordic Ware product manager is getting for Christmas?
I need a modest size rice cooker. It doesn’t need to cook anything but rice for up to 4 people. Mostly I want to be able to load it up and hit the go button and not deal with it. Suggestions? (We cook white, jasmine, sushi, brown and red rice.)
