My brother is taking AP World History this year. I never took that class but I've taken AP European History. Is there a lot of overlap between the two classes? Would my notes and materials be helpful to him?
Thanks!

That’s what I was wondering!haha.

For each AP class, there are guidelines for the material and analytical skills to be taught. In theory, teachers are supposed to submit a complex lesson plan of some sort, rather detailed, and have it approved by some central organization. It was a slow process, with changes being required mid-stream, etc. (I don’t know how simplified it is today.) So, it is possible that a topic covered in your class, in a particular way, could contrast the way in which he is being taught. I do not mean errors. I mean, his classes on topic X could emphasize different aspects, the work of different scholars, could analyze in a different light. Be cautious.

I have taken AP World History and I believe 30% of what is covered in World History involves Europe.

Having said that, that doesn’t mean 30% of what’s covered in European History has to do with the world.

I’m pretty sure APWH begins to overlap with AP Euro once APWH reaches the Renaissance (i.e. 1450-ish).

^No, I think APWH overlaps earlier when APWH reaches Ancient Greece and Rome, and after that the Middle Ages, Crusades and then Renaissance.

Well, AP Euro starts at the High Renaissance (1450), so I don’t see how AP Euro can overlap with APWH at Ancient Greece/Rome when AP Euro covers neither of those topics.

^Oh sorry, I didn’t know the AP Euro exam starts at 1450, I never took AP Euro. That’s strange how it doesn’t cover anything earlier though.

Well, AP Euro covers a smaller time period in lots more detail.

I’m self-studying APWH and APEH right now, and there isn’t a HUGE overlap between the two. Let me put it this way: Knowing EH for the APEH test will help you quite a bit in APWH’s European sections. But knowing EH through APWH’s dept and coverage won’t do you that much on the APEH test (based on what I’ve read so far, it could depend on how you read, what you read, etc.)
