Evaluating my SAT II scores

Hi, i just got my SAT 2 scores back:
Math 2:770
US history:750
Biology M:760

I'm pretty satisfied with those scores, but my parents want me to retake one or two of them so that i could possibly get an 800. For example, does math 2 770 or biology 760 differ greatly from math 2 800 and biology 800? I am Asian Jr. and I am looking to apply to colleges such as Amherst, Duke, Dartmouth, Williams, and Cornell and I am planning on majoring in biology with business. Should I retake or is it worth it to just keep those scores and be done with SAT 2s? How much will 800s compared to my high 700s make a difference to admission officers? Thanks

For Biology and US History, there probably won’t be much of a difference. However, for Math II, a good 11-12 % of the population that takes the Math II gets an 800. I would recommend that you take that again.

Thanks ParthivNaresh. Being the lazy bum i am, i really would prefer not to take any more subject tests. is 770 in math still good enough or will it hurt my resume?

I know you have pressure from your parents or have high aspirations for yourself, but I would encourage you to retake Math II, but not retake the others. The others are very good scores and demonstrate your aptitude in many areas of study.

I feel I remember reading in Silverturtle’s college admissions guide that even for MIT a 750 on Math II is roughly equivalent to a 800. So I wouldn’t bother…

I’d think that an 800 on the Math Reasoning would be the same as a 770. However, for the Math II, there’s a significant difference, and since these colleges accept the best, you have to be in the top 10% or even less, pool.

Your scores are fine for Williams. Don’t sweat it too much; if you really want an 800, US History has the easiest curve out of the three tests. (I believe you may miss up to 4 or 5.)

if you plan on being a biology major then I think that would be important, so if you’re going to retake the math one like people say, I would try that one also.

770 is a decent enough score and could get you into top schools, but only if the other parts of your app are top-notch. So I would retake to get an 800 to increase your chances.

You don’t need to re-take any of them. Colleges don’t see a difference between 750 and 800.
