R.J. Evans was shocked when the coach who brought him to Holy Cross left last month.

He doesnt plan on following suit.

Evans, a Salem native and the 2009 Patriot Leagues Rookie of the Year, said he plans to remain at Holy Cross despite the Crusaders first coaching change in more than a decade.

Holy Cross introduced former Notre Dame assistant Sean Kearney as its new head coach last week, filling the void left by Ralph Willard, who resigned to join Rick Pitinos staff at Louisville.

He inherits a team that reached the Patriot League championship game a year ago and returns four of its top five scorers, including leading scorer Evans (13.4 points), who said he never considered leaving the Mass.-based school.

Its a great school, Evans said by phone Monday. You cant match the opportunity I have to play Division-I basketball and the education Im getting here. There are not many schools like that. Im in a good situation no matter who the coach is, and we have a good team. I think were going to win anyway.
