Actually, I don’t even know what to think of myself. I’ve gotten extremities from both ends of the spectrum

True, but it’s the attitude you should take to have peace of mind.

I see many beautiful Asian women in magazines these days . At some point , you learn to be happy with what you have . Maybe a makeover is what you need to perk you up .

yea…makeup does wonders. it can turn an ugly duckling into a very pretty person.

and it can turn a very pretty person into a scary clown

I’m a guy. As I’ve said, I have a very, very convex (Roman) nose coupled with a weak jaw and spaced-out eyes. My profile looks like that of a bird. It’s very unflattering.

You’ll call it strange, but part of growing up in a superficial environment that’s extremely hard on its uglies actually led to find my passion (genetics). I want to see what makes people this way, how it affects their perceptions and others’ perception of them, and how I can fix it. I’ve thought about becoming a cosmetic surgeon.

I don’t subscribe to the “ugly duckling” school of thought. After all, if you go into your garden and collect all the worms you can find, some of those worms nay turn into butterflies. But the majority of those worms are going to be worms forever.

uuhh… catepillars turn into butterflies, not worms. Just saying :)

Being attractive is life on easy mode.

Sometimes I am really self confident, and I tend to get complimented on those days.

Some days I just think “I’m so ugly today” and overall have a bad day.

It’s all about self image, girl!

Oh, ok. Thank you for missing the point entirely.

EDIT: Interesting (and much-needed) factoid. I looked it up. The word is apparently spelled “caterpillar”–not “catepillar” or whatever you were saying. Who knew?

But seriously, thanks for bringing that to light! I feel like it really contributed something to the conversation. Some people might never have understood what I was trying to say without your thoughtful insight!

Catepillars turn into butteflies actually, not butterflies. Just saying :).

Do you have any reservations about your passions being determined by how you look?

Are you talking to me?

yeah, the second line was to you.

To answer your question: No.

okay. I always thought something like - i don’t want what I do to be determined by local things. but that’s just cause of the issue of wanting to feel like I am really choosing what I am doing, and not wanting to feel like it was chosen for me.

plenty of people do amazing, nice, fulfilling things that basically resulted from some very local but imprinting event.

As someone with chronic low self-esteem, I ALWAYS wish I was prettier. Every. Single. Day.

Hm, this is an interesting thread.

I’m not implying that I dont think I’m pretty or that I’m a loser. It’s just that sometimes I lose sight of that and then I dont feel very good about myself.

“Smart ambitious white girl” is worse. People expect the white girls to be the pretty, fun-loving, partying ones, but I’m the definition of plain, and spend most of my spare time on sports and volunteering. At my school, at least, Asian girls have the excuse of the stereotype.

My best friend is literally a model-it’s impossible not to.
