Everyone keeps telling me to go to BU SMG

I paid deposits for both BU SMG and also a city school CUNY Baruch in New York. Ultimately, I want to go to Stern as a transfer (if possible) next year as a sophomore, and MBA at Stern after working for a while.

I’ll like to stay in the city and work in the future and I heard that MBA b-schools usually look at internships/job experience, and at BU I doubt I can find much internships at Boston , wouldnt have time anyways due to workload. At CUNY Baruch, it’s much more lenient and I can def. get a job in the city specific to my major (Finance).

But everyone tells me I’m going to miss out if I don’t go to BU SMG and that I’ll regret it in the future ??

Can you guys help me decide please? It’s better asking strangers because there’s no one-sided opinion.

thank you for taking the time to read.

to those who keeps seeing me post similar topics , please bear with me . just trying to get some good advice. Thanks

With BU you will get an amazing college town full of students literally every where you go from all different schools, one of the nicest business buildings ever that practically looks like the lobby of a four seasons hotel (it was recently renovated), an amazing environment for college, Boston is called the Athens of America, and if you are comparing BU's SMG and Cuny's business school, go ahead and ask people which is better, I think most people's response would be what's CUNY. How could you even compare the two. If you want to transfer to Stern then maybe go to CUNY but that is assuming you get at least a 3.8-4.0. If you are THAT confident then do it but it is very hard to transfer to Stern. You don't want to regret this. BU is the obvious choice if money isn't the issue.

4 years of BU will cost me 100k . thats excluding personal expenses.... money is obviously the issue for me or else i would go to BU hands down.

My parents make roughly 20k a year. BU minus financial aid will cost me 20-25k a year.

Adding persoanl expenses, travel, eat, party ,etc 4 years at BU will cost me at least 150k ....

you should not be spending 50k on personal expenses. if you are then perhaps you should seriously scale back on your travel/partying/whatever. if your personal expenses after 4 years are the same price as a BMW, then work on your own personal finances. you should be able to scale back at least 10k if not more right there.

if money is an issue, but you have confidence in your grades, do CUNY. when you apply to Stern... Re-apply to SMG as well (if they accept transfers, which I'm assuming they do). the worst that could happen, as long as your grades stay good, is that you shave some money off of your four year BU price tag.

good thinking. that 50k is because i'll like a car too. 2nd hand though, maybe around 20k-25k.

any more suggestions? im open for em

if u decide to go to bu youd seriously regret getting a car...theres public transportation everywhere and youll end up feeling stupid for getting one, unless you plan on driving back and forth between nyc and boston all the time...what am i saying, theres still the bus and the train!

btw i spend less than $1000 on personal expenses every year (excluding books) and i very much enjoy myself with the money i allot

1,000$ a year ? hmm ...

how do u like it there? which school and how do u deal with the grade deflation?

but i'll like a car .. lol , i plan to go back every week or 2 weeks (to the city)

hey, stop into pittsburgh PA, I'll sell you my car.

anyway, 1000 a year is pretty small in my eyes, but 12k a year can be cut back quite a bit as well considering the fact that you wont be at your college for around 4-5 months out of the year.

anyway, come buy my car!

is it an infiniti g37 6mt? :D

If you think the financial aid is bad at BU, you haven't seen what NYU will offer. For the most part what you'll get from NYU is loans.

it is NOT an infiniti.

lol dont complain about the exorbitant cost of bu and then be picky about a car...i have a 2000 maxima and while i would never bring it to boston it would be totally sufficient for what youd like a car for...however, i still really recommend you think about this, a car is insanely unnecessary

Buying a car for BU would not be a good idea. Just having a car costs upwards of $900 for the permit alone (which does not guarantee a parking space, meaning you'll have to fight for one in the already parking-starved Boston), and with the exorbitant prices of gas nowadays, it'l cost you far more than it is worth.

thanks but my post wasn't really about the car. let's forget the car =D.

I'll like to stay in the city and work in the future and I heard that MBA b-schools usually look at internships/job experience, and at BU I doubt I can find much internships at Boston , wouldnt have time anyways due to workload. At CUNY Baruch, it's much more lenient and I can def. get a job in the city specific to my major (Finance).

+city in the future
+try to transfer into stern sophomore year
+need a high GPA

should i go to BU or baruch?

Side question... ------ What if i tell both schools i'm going and end up going to just one of them? That's okay right ?

You plan to drive back and forth between Boston and NYC every two weeks or so? No wonder your living expenses will be that much, think about how much gas money that is.

Plus get the Infiniti G37 coupe. Coupes are 10x sportier.

of course lol. infiniti g37 coupes with the prem. sport package ^ ^lol . of course im just dreaming =)

I've heard of admissions decisions being rescinded for both schools if you commit to the two of them.

It would probably be best to visit BU (if you haven't already) and Baruch and make a decision. Waiting longer is just going to drive you crazy.

In cases like yours, people are going to have many different opinions, but you seem to know the pros and cons of each, so try to make an educated choice. There is really no right or wrong answer.
