I just read (wracking my brain to remember where so I can post the citation) that as of this year in the US, girls have closed the math-gap, and their scores, as a gender-group, are now indistinguishable from those of boys.</p>

<p>However…boys have not closed the reading gender gap. They still, as a group, lag behind girls in reading scores in American schools.

Are you sure about that? Just checked Collegeboard’s data for the HS class of '09…The math gap is 35 points in favor of males, whereas the reading gap is 5 points, also in favor of males. Also interesting was that the female/male ratio of test-takers is 8/7, though I’m not sure what sort of a role that may have in determining the statistics…</p>
