just a quick question…is a 30 act (33M 33E 30R 24S) and 770 math L2 good enough for UPenn or brown?
just wondering about exam scores not overall, like grades, EC’s and essays…just act/sat scores…

I personally despise the SAT/ACT, and feel both do a poor job and shouldn’t be used in admissions, despite doing well enough to correlate with the Ivy schools I applied to based on their 50%ile. Anyways, I don’t want to ramble a rant here, so I’ll just begin.

Personally, you have as good a chance as anyone. Your ACT Composite falls within their 50% range, which is 29~33, although that science score may kill you. Your subject test score is good, although I don’t know if they’ll take into account the curve for that test (5~6 wrong still guarantees an 800).

If you really want to go to Brown and feel you’re the right student then apply and show that through your essays.

I don’t know about Brown, but personally Essays > SAT/ACT scores any day.

I would think they look for higher scores over the essay.

For the record, I applied with a 34 ACT.

NewAccount and chiefsnadal: while high scores never hurt for Brown, the essays are really what make you stand out as an applicant and are what will ultimately get you in. Even if you have a 2400 SAT, Brown will not accept you unless you’re a genuinely interesting person, as shown by your essays, recommendations, and the other parts of your application.
