Excused/unexcused absences still show up in your report card. Whats the difference?

Usually because of high school sports or the flu I miss out a class or two. Each time my parent writes a letter to excuse my absence.

I received my 2nd semester grades which shows 6 class absences, due to being away at a tourney. I excused it the day after the tourney.

Either way, if you excuse it or not, it still shows up in your report card/transcript. So whats the point? Excusing it is a pain, as the attendance office isn't that organized.

At my HS, unexcused absences were penalized. I think after a certain amount of unexcused, it was an automatic fail and if a student missed an assignment or test or whatever during an unexcused absence, they weren’t allowed to make it up.

Versus if they were excused, then there wasn’t any sort of grade penalty and assignments and tests could be handed in later.
So making sure they were excused was kind of important.

I guess it depends on how your school works.
If your school doesn’t penalize or mark whether it is/isn’t excused on your transcript/report card/whatever, then I suppose it doesn’t matter.

It’s the same way at my school… all absences, excused or not, show up on the report card.

As long as you know that you had them cleared, I wouldn’t worry about it. Maybe verify with the attendance office at your school, as well.

It is horribly annoying though, I’ll give you that. Because then you have no idea whether it was a legitimate cleared absence or an unexcused one.

I don’t wanna hijack the thread, but what’s the difference between unexcused absence and truancy?

^ they are the same at my school.

^^ yeah, it’s the same thing.

Alright, I’m guess I’m fine with a few absences there and there.

I was afraid that colleges will look down and spit on my application paper after seeing me miss school.

Absences won’t show up on your transcript :)

^ Ehh they do on ours.

^ Nevermind. I guess all schools are different.

We get suspended for three unexcused absences…

Three unexcused absences leads to a suspension at my school as well, and any unexcused absence leads to a detention.

They’re also really strict about being tardy. If you’re late once, you get a warning. If you’re late twice, you get a phone call home from the vice principal. If you’re late thrice, you get a detention, and until you serve it, you are banned from any school activites (i.e. sports, dances, games, &c.). Lame. I always seem to be late for my first class, and it’s not because I’m smoking weed behind the gym like the administration suspects everyone to be doing. -__-

I have so many unexcused absences … but I haven’t been penalized in any way for them (fingers crossed).

So it depends on the school. I would ask this question of the attendance office before descending into truancy, ahem.

My school gives Saturday detention for the third tardy in a semester. I believe the first two are warnings.

at my school 3 taries= 1 unexcused absence

more than 7 absences= automatic fail in the class but if u have a doctor’s note u can get it repealed/cleared

lol wow you guys go to some nazi district schools at our school

15 absences and the counselor talks with your parents about dropping the class.
1 entire day truant = 3 hour saturday school.
4 tardies = Unsatisfactory citizenship which doesn’t mean ****.
Trying to forge an absense note = 1 saturday school.

for some reason you can amass a ton of periods missed (like you just missed 1st and 2nd a lot) but you don’t get anything at our school.

oh and technically an unexcused absense can be excused (within 48 hours) but then becomes a truant.

^ Your school sounds strict to me. We…basically do it on a case-by-case basis. Some people are late every single day and are occasionally told to come in for ‘early registration’, which never happens, so their heads of house yell at them some more and they have to do early registration the next week…and so on. Barely any people get detention for being late. And there’s some glitch on the school system (we sign in electronically) so lateness doesn’t show up on your report.

Sooooo. All’s good as far as I’m concerned, even though I started leaving home 20 minutes earlier this year, so I get to school on time almost every day. Woot.

ok I should have said “per quarter” meaning 15 absensces per quarter which is more than once a week… basically the worst that can happen is you get a saturday school, if the teacher wants to be a ***** he/she can give out detentions for tardies but never happens.
