Exeter - Ask a student

the questions i remember from my interview were things like “what do you think you can bring to exeter’s community?” “why boarding school? more importantly, why exeter?”

it’s definitely possible to ask for single rooms - exeter’s flexible about those things and tries to get you the rooms you request for in the dorms you request for. i have a roommate, and it’s alright. we’re different socially, but i know people who have amazing relationships with their roommates! and if you have issues with your roommates, you can always look for someone else in the dorm to switch with you or something. i know of a boys’ dorm who shuffled some of their rooms in the middle of fall term.

Per definition, it’s likely that no kid at Exeter is “normal” - isn’t it? :D

Yeah, right? When my son once mentioned that “the kids here are weird,” I was thinking, “Pot, meet kettle!”

as is so often the case, pulsar, your thinking is again dyslexic

Go take another long break before you come back again, will ya?

Dorm-wise, even if you get a roommate your first year here, most people switch into a single room in the same dorm the next year. I like having a roommate, though. I always have a companion, and it’s good having someone else in the room to keep me focused sometimes!

Thanks for the replies! if i have one bad recommendation letter would it put my chance of admission at risk? I wish I could ask a recommendation letter from my past teacher instead of my current teacher… he doesn’t like to write and at a quick glance there were only like 3 words for each question… with words crossed out :(

Cutiedida and PEA2014 are right about the workload, though it can be really fun in the dorm too.** Any questions about Exeter; feel free to PM. ** I am loving it so far!!! Sorry, I haven’t been on in eons, but the homework and the school can really take up your time sometimes.

urbanflop! Haha I figured out who you are btw. Yes, PEA2014 and I are stalkers :)

kind of funny how we all know who each other is. :)

When going to Exeter, do you be friends over multiple years. Because at my school, I have friends for a year or two and then we don’t have classes and then I don’t talk to them or they don’t talk to me. So if you and your roommate are best buddies and then you get a single next year, do you think it’s easy to still be friends there?

it’s definitely easy to still be friends. you see people everywhere - dining hall, in your dorm, in town on the weekends, sports, clubs, all around campus. boarding school allows you to see people more often than you normally would due to the fact that you all live together, so i’m pretty sure it’s easy for friendships to continue over the years.
