Exeter vs. Deerfield?

Thank you all for the insight. I cant wait until revisit days.

Superb choices and congratulations! Our DS was fortunate enough to have a (similar) choice between Deerfield and Andover. As an international parent who leaves many, many miles away, finding a warm, nurturing environment (in addition to seeking academic excellence) was a priority. It was imparative that our DS fit in, given that going back to his home country would be very difficult in case of incompatibility. After revisit day, our DS unexpectedly settled on Deerfield. Students at Deerfield seemed genuinely happy and balanced. In addition, the smaller size of Deerfield was an asset (as opposed to a liability) for him. Teachers at DA seemed extraordinarily committed and accessible to students, in a way that would be much harder to replicate in larger schools like Andover or Exeter. As for the Nantucket red or other elements of the Prep culture mentioned earlier, our DS, as an international student, might theoretically have experienced a more strenuous adjustment process at Deerfield than the average American boarding student. Instead, he found Deerfield to be most welcoming and very diverse. Our DS could not be happier. My wife and I are also very relieved. While no school is perfect or appropriate for every student, Deerfield offers superb academics (our son is strong in the STEM subjects), engaging athletic activities (what a school spirit!), dedicated teachers, beautiful facilities and a student body that, for the most part, is very kind and accepting of diversity. Still, there is no doubt that Exeter is an exceptional school as well. Hope you enjoy your revisit days.
