Exeter Wait List

We were just told (by an admission officer) that Exeter is over subscribed for 9th grade. They will keep the wait list open until May 1st then decide on a grade by grade basis if they will close the lists.

sigh, one door just closed... and the other one was left slightly ajar. Looks like I'm going to be stuck here for another year :(

My son also has an Andover wait list spot like you. Andover was a bit more optimistic but as you know it will be a very slim to none chance to come off the wait list. As difficult as it seems, you need to try to view the process as a learning experience. It is often the case that things happen for a reason. It is hard to see the reason when you are in the middle of it but it does become clear eventually. Hang in there and make where you are a success.

Yeah.. I pretty much know that already. I wrote a long letter to both Andover and Exeter telling them about how much I learned from the application experience and that even if I am not accepted, I won't consider my effort wasted because for me it was kind of like a self-reflection that showed me my faults, so it was worth it.

What do most waitlisted people think? Do they come to the same conclusion as me or does that happen later... or not at all? :/

Apparently yield was higher than ever this year (according to the Exonian,) so overenrollment is a possibility. However, they may have expected that with the new financial aid plan, and admitted fewer students in the first time. If you really want to go to Exeter, stay on the waitlist. Don't give up hope until you must! Write a letter to the admissions office expressing your continued interest, send an extra reccomendation if you believe it will add something new to your file.

I am an Exeter student going through this same process in college admissions. It's grueling but could be worth it. If it doesn't work out, you may learn that you are better off whereever you end up after all. Exeter is great, but not everything and not for everyone. That being said if you're on the waitlist I'm sure you're plenty qualified. Best of luck!

Has anyone heard anything from Exeter on the waitlist situation

they told me around May 1.....

:(( so they are going to tell us what happens on may 1?

I am waitlisted. But I gave up the hope knowing that it has been already over subscribed. If you have other choices, you'd better be satisfied with
one of them and prepare for a new life.
