Expeced family contribution of 0. What about scholarships?

Hello! My EFC is 0, and I am applying to the "we cover 100% of ur need" schools. Do I still need to apply for scholarships? I mean, the money is already going to the school. Or, do some schorlarships money go to me? Thank you!!

It may be too risky to ONLY apply to schools that meet 100% of need. Those are the hardest to get into.

If you have the stats to get into top schools, then ALSO apply to financial safety schools that will give you huge merit for your stats. Otherwise you may end up with no affordable schools.

BTW…do you have a non custodial parent? If so, then the income/assets of that parent will count at some of the those “meet need” schools.

What are your stats? What is your major?

Do check each school’s scholarship rules. Some scholarships at some schools do have separate deadlines from admissions, may need another application and more information. You do not want to miss out because you did not check these things.

Though your EFC may be zero, most schools that guarantee to meet need also use PROFILE. Do complete some NPC for those schools and make sure that there are not things that are included that FAFSA may not use, such as home equity values, non custodial parents, etc.

Also, it’s fine and great that you are applying to these school, but make sure you have some options that you can afford and are sure things in admissions. THose are usually the state local schools and community colleges. Everyone should have a fail safe type option like that in their choices.
