I got caught with edibles (marijuana) in the beginning of my 8th grade year and was given the chance to go to my local alternative school for the rest of the semester and return the next but I decided to stay at the alternative school and ended up getting expelled from the district due to violating my contract (I couldn’t miss more than two days of school and I missed at least 14) and was sent to a school the expelled kids go to, how will this affect my college plans? I want to be an accountant and I’m really worried that with this on my transcript I won’t be accepted into any colleges and eventually, accounting jobs.
Hey @stupidgirl ! Don’t be so hard on yourself, lots of kids make similar decisions and just have better luck avoiding punishment.
I would say your best bet is to get your GED or HS Equivalent if a diploma is not an option. Then go to a community college (they usually let most people attend regardless of their HS) and work really hard at getting good grades and then apply to transfer to a university after two years.
BUT wait until you’re ready. It’s okay if you don’t want to go to college right away… especially if you think you will miss similar amounts of school or it’s not something you can commit to right now. There’s a lot of pressure to go but don’t listen to it. It costs so much money and is such a big investment, it’s worth waiting until you’re confident in your goals and your ability to commit. It gets harder but i promise it’s not as hard as being tens of thousands in debt with a degree you don’t want.
I’m 31, I did TERRIBLE in HS bc I skipped all the time. Now i’m ready and getting a 4.0 at community college and will transfer this year or next. Your mistakes do not define you.
So true! And congrats on getting back on track
@stupidgirl Everybody makes mistakes, it’s what you learn from the mistakes you make, that determine how successful you will be in your future. Learn and grow. You are young.
The good news is that with a high school diploma or equivalent over a thousand four year colleges & universities will accept you as will community colleges.

This is good advice. Learn from your mistakes & look forward.
I’m not sure she isn’t on track to graduate. The question was about the 8th grade issues and school she attends now. I think.
OP can you make your issue a little clearer so we can help.
Stick with your HS. Don’t get a GED unless absolutely necessary.
Work hard, keep your nose clean and try not to miss classes. Talk to your guidance counselor if there are issues you have at home that make you miss class.
When you are a senior, apply to collges that match your GPA/SAT scores.
If you get accepted, then great!
If not then go to your Community College for 2 years and then transfer to a state college/university
I had a similar issue with a vape yesterday and got suspended for 3 days. I am a freshman, so mine is a little worse. The good news is you were in 8th grade not highschool so the damage isn’t as bad. Get back on track and if you think you wont be accepted to any college at all, thats not true.
