Experience Details on UMass Amherst, UNH, UConn

any thoughts on which school is the best/ any personal experiences?

umass has the best food in the country

“Best”? Depends on what you’re looking for. UConn is considered the strongest academically, has had a big infusion of state funds in recent years for new construction, and certainly has appeal if you love college basketball, but the location is unappealing to some. UMass is in a nice college town and offers cross registration opportunities with other schools in the area.

UConn is easily the best of the three academically, followed by UMass.

umass isnt as good as uconn? how so? @LBad96 @MommaJ

Having a daughter at Umass (Finance and Econ) and a son at UCONN (mech Eng), my impressions are that Umass is stronger in certain areas (Engineering, Isenberg School of Management and Computer Science) but that overall UCONN is stronger academically.

Personally I like UCONN campus better but it is more rural (although they have been building the little Storrs Center with some restaurants, shops, etc.). It is hard to beat Amherst as a college town!

Good luck!

oh great thank you! WHich one of your children seems to like their school more? @ConfusedMominMA

I would say my daughter is having the better college experience but I would think she might have the better experience if she went to UCONN too. It is more a function of the 2 of them rather than the school. She originally was applying to smaller schools (Villanova, BC, etc) but she is glad she chose Umass amherst. She is in the Honors college, loves the honors dorms, is doing very well academically, has a great group of friends, goes to sports, goes to Amherst for meals occasionally (although as noted above Umass does have great food and she doesn’t feel the need to go off campus to eat!), belongs to several clubs, etc.

I don’t think my son is taking advantage of all that UCONN has to offer. He works long hours on homework, doesn’t go to any sporting events, doesn’t belong to any clubs, etc. He is just trying to get through, graduate this May and get a job.

A lot depends on you and not just the school. Good luck!!

Thanks so much for the input @ConfusedMominMA ! Im leaning towards umass for the lower tuition price and still waiting on uconn. I was also accepted to UNH but unsure how good their academics are although i loved the campus and the overall feel of the school.

im planning to major n biology and have been accepted to both programs. I know that Umass is a little stronger academically but the feel of the campus at UNH is much more appealing to me. I have not yet received my financial aid status for UNH but the in state tuition for umass is appealing. Any thoughts/ ecperiences?
