We went to a local craft brewery this afternoon. Good music played outside initially (classic, rap). Then, two songs came on that I found very offensive and could not believe they were playing at 4 pm with families and children present. Maybe it’s just me but I am no prude but I just couldn’t believe it. I listen to Sirius radio, Howard Stern, etc. and know I will hear explicit stuff but I choose to listen.
Two Steel Panther songs came on in a row. Never heard of them but googled them when I got home. Heavy metal parody group. The songs were “Community Property” and then “Death to All But Metal.” The lyrics are available online and I will not post here so as not to potentially offend anyone.
My husband said to ignore but I spoke with a manager , who listened to my concerns but said patrons are allowed to choose songs. Why these songs were available is beyond me.
We enjoy craft breweries and have never had this kind of experience with music in the middle of the day! Thanks in advance for letting me vent!
Steel Panther is unacceptable for a public place like that, IMO. They make me cringe. I feel that there’s a time & place for questionable lyrics, and a restaurant in the afternoon is not the time nor the place. I’m no prude, but people should be respectful.
I’m no Tipper Gore, believe me. I don’t want laws … just common sense.
OK I looked up the lyrics and I have to agree, totally inappropriate and cringe-worthy in a setting where children are present. I agree with @kelsmom there’s a time and place for everything.
I’m not a metal fan so had to look up the lyrics. Uh, wow.
I’m glad you said something and, personally, would let them know that I won’t be back. If you allow families at your establishment I think you should do what radio and TV stations have done and have “safe harbor” hours. It’s fine if they want to play such explicit lyrics, but I wouldn’t until 10 p.m.
I took my 16 year old to a bar/restaurant for an early dinner in neighborhood full of young children perhaps at 4 pm and the fbombs and bbombs were frequent in the music. Mentioned it to manager, Didn’t go back, restaurant failed. Wasn’t crazy about same music at liquor store at 9:45 pm but recognize there are different audiences.
Agree about appropriate music for different venues & clientele.
Had a somewhat similar experience yesterday at my dentist’s office. Not sure as to whether or not it was designed to drum up additional business. The inappropriate music made me want to grind my teeth.
I agree that it isn’t the time or place for that. I walked out of Target a few weeks back and there was a sign up desk for the gym next door set up on the side walk and they were blasting explicit music. The manager of the Target asked them to turn it off but IMO the gym employees should have known better.
You heard inappropriate music at the dentist? I’m sorry if I find that kind of funny … I wouldn’t really expect that to be an issue at a medical office. Bars are one thing, but come yeah that’s not really appropriate.
Frankly, I think he owes me an apology. I do not appreciate what he implied about me. I am in general liberal and inclusive. It was totally uncalled for but he has conveniently made his comments disappear.
And upon reflection, I edited it within the time frame as we are all entitled to do. It was a bad joke, and I meant no offense. I apologize that you interpreted it in a way I did not intend.
Ok. Thanks I think I was not the only one who thought your attempt at humor fell flat.
@abasket Many breweries are fairly low key, especially during the day. Not unusual to hear music but definitely not music like that in the afternoon! It was a rainy miserable day here and we just decided to get out of the house for awhile around 4 before dinner. Little did I know we would run into this at a very local place to us. We were last there a few months ago and liked it so decided to give it another try.
