Exploratory Track for Business - Isenberg - what does this acceptance mean?

My son got admitted to Umass Amherst today to the " Exploratory Track for Business in the Isenberg School of Management. " We assume he is “in” Isenberg but just not directly in for his major which was Accounting. Does anyone have any experience with this? So it IS Isenberg but just not his major…yet? I looked online at their description and it seems that way but we are looking for anyone who has been this route. He has gotten into all other Business schools for Accounting so far that he has applied to so this one is a bit confusing. Thanks

My son is an Isenberg '17 grad and my daughter was just accepted to the Marketing program today. I believe the Exploratory Track is like a feeder program where a student’s eventual acceptance into the business school is predicated on how he performs in the Exploratory Track class(es).

I’m sure admissions would be able to answer this question if you emailed them.

Here’s what the website says, and I agree it makes sense to confirm/discuss with the AO (which the student should do, not the parent).

@Jcc1964 his letter says he is in Isenberg, just the “exploratory” major within the business school. So he is in, just not for his first choice of Accounting is what I assume. And yes - I have already messaged on Facebook the Admissions office and hoping he can call tomorrow and also will check with his guidance office as hopefully since they are a high school in MA they would have a good handle on exactly what it means. I will post an update once we get some answers.

I believe the Isenberg Exploratory Track thing started with my daughter’s year (incoming 2015, graduated 2019). One of her friends was in that Exploratory Track, did well at Isenberg, and had no difficulty declaring her business major (Marketing) during her sophomore year. Not sure exactly who gets put in that track or why; looking forward to hearing what his guidance counselor and the admissions office say about it.

Thank you @BostonMama ! I actually told my son when he called to ask for any stats on where the exploratory track kids are today, and I also told him to ask to speak with any who are currently in the track/or finally out to see what their experience is/was.
The info you shared is just what I am looking for.
My son called today but no one answered after about 5 tries from 2-5pm so he emailed and will try calling again tomorrow.
We called Admissions and they did not know any details; they simply place them in the track and then referred him to Isenberg to speak with someone there regarding all the details.

@Momtofourkids I asked my daughter more about it last night and she didn’t know any details other than that her friend did have full access to the standard Isenberg curriculum when registering for classes and that she was able to declare the marketing major later on. Hope someone at Isenberg can give your family all the information that your son needs to make a decision.

@bostonmama thanks so much. I let my son know what you have shared and it is very helpful! My son is meeting finally with his guidance counselor tomorrow afternoon and we are hoping for more information. We are also hoping they can put us in touch with their usual contacts at the UMass.
