I applied with an accountanting major however on my admission letter says “you have earned a position in the Fall 2017 entering class as an undeclared major within the Social and Behavioral Sciences Exploratory Track.”
It means that you weren’t accepted into your major. Strange thing is Accounting is in Isenberg, not the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. In which case, this would mean that you weren’t accepted into the exploratory track for Isenberg either, because it would have said Business Exploratory Track instead.
Just out of curiosity, did you list your 2nd preferred major on the common app. as Economics or Psychology? Because otherwise, I can’t see a reason why they would put you in the SSBS.
No, my second preferred major was Finance… Should I contact the admissions office for information? Or should I wait until August to declare my major with my advisor?
I’d definitely contact admissions and ask them about it then. Both Accounting and Finance are in Isenberg, and you should have been admitted into the Business Exploratory track instead, unless for some reason you didn’t make the cut. Still don’t know why they’d put you in the SBS’s exploratory track instead of just WL or denying you at that point though, because usually the school won’t put you in a major that you didn’t specify an interest in. I wouldn’t wait until summer NSO to meet with an advisor, because if they do change you to a different exploratory track, you’ll have a different advisor. It also could cause problems with being able to sign up for classes that you’d need to take if you’re in Isenberg or the Business ET.
