explore usc is up

I just checked son's usc connect site this am.. it has a new link.. received presidential!

Awesome, so I guess you could check if you got accepted via that. Let’s hope USC doesn’t find out as they usually do and patch them fairly quickly.

Anyone know any alternative “exploits” once the mail is sent out for the people who applied after Dec. 1st?

Daughter got Presidential!!!

Presidential… Hoping I can get bumped up to Trustee.

I guess my son didn’t get one of the big scholarships then. Don’t see it on his usconnect. Is it under Events, or a separate tab altogether?

so if i don’t see the tab, does that mean i won’t get an admissions letter in the mail
i’m in illinois and havent received anything yet, but i’m still hopeful
but I also don’t have the explore USC tab

The admission tab contains a box labeled “RSVP for admitted students” programs.

After clicking on that box, there is a register screen asking for email and phone. That leads to another screen which contains the “USC Admission Events RSVP System” listing several events. The top event is Explore USC. Clicking “reserve” for this event provided the “congratulations on your admission and selection as a USC Presidential Scholarship Candidate” with the Explore dates.

Last year I discovered my son’s status on the explore link as well, a full week before he got the big packet! Congrats to those who are discovering this happy news this morning. Also remember, Dean’s scholarship recipients do not have to interview so just because you don’t see the explore link does not mean you won’t get a scholarship!

look under “Events/rsvp for admitted students program” or “admission/rsvp for admitted students program”

REMEMBER that you MUST come to an Explore USC event AND INTERVIEW in order to receive a Presidential or Trustee scholarship. So check your calenders and make plans to visit USC during one of the Explore USC dates.

Thank you ngongs! We were able to see the good news: admitted, trustee candidate! Whohooo! So excited for him!

USC2016, in the past, some students accepted at the end of March did find out a few hours to a couple days before receiving their mail in much the same way (particularly if they live far away): There are one-day Explore events for non-scholarship admitted students, so that “RSVP tab” can appear in late March–just as those packages are going out. (But for some students, it didn’t appear until just after the packets arrived. Phew!)

Industrious past students also found the direct URL to the “enrollment deposit” tab–and saw that they were accepted just prior to receiving the packet. (This is how we found out!) But that URL comes much later in the game - not now!

HOWEVER, and this is the important part, NOT seeing the enrollment deposit link didn’t mean a student wasn’t accepted. For some, it appeared much later than others.

So if you can see the RSVP for Admitted Students Box at all, does that mean you’re in? Like can everyone see it, or is it only if you have been admitted?

Thanks!

wait…so if i don’t see an RSVP box in either the events or admissions tab, does that mean that i’m for sure not being picked for an interview? :(

Applicant from WA, no “Explore USC” box, and “Submit Mid-year grades” suddenly pops up. I guess I didn’t get it. Surprising, because my stats were nearly identical to somebody admitted yesterday.

Map174, thanks for the instructions!

Two questions:

How many are nominated for the presidential?

Should a parent accompany their DS? DS could go either way on this. On the one hand, perhaps DS does not need me around in a competitive scholarship situation, because I could be a distraction. On the other hand, does an institution take note of parental presence as an indicator of sincere interest?

Wow, lots of news today. Congratulations to all who have been admitted and are receiving invitations to interview. Commiserations to all who are not seeing the tabs they’d like to see online. Of course, none of us here on cc can possibly predict why some students get invited and others don’t. It’s a holistic process, so certain majors may look more closely at certain parts of the application and the decisions are not made simply by gpa or scores.

I always advise students to be aware that these decisions are as perplexing at times as admissions for the most intense ivy–so lots of extraordinary students will not get this invite, while other extraordinary students will. I am always concerned when disappointed students post they are surprised they did not get an invitation since no one should be surprised by how rough the competition is for full and half-tuition scholarships to a top university. Still, we all shake our head along with you.

It’s likely that many here are looking at this decision as an indicator of future results at highly selective colleges, but each school looks for and values different criteria and all of them have many more wonderfully qualified applicants than they have spaces–so alas–we hope you have set some realistic goals and have match and safety schools on your list, as well as understand that you are certainly in contention for admission to USC and most likely with other scholarships down the line.

Seeking, I think we figured one year that about 500 are invited to interview for Presidential and about 300 are invited to interview for Trustee–a determination calculated based on the number of Explore sessions.

In past years, I believe out of the 300 invited to come to Explore for Trustee, about 240 or so decide to attend, then about 200 are offered Trustee (but this number includes those (? number) who get bumped up to Trustee from Presidential and doesn’t count those from the original 240 who get bumped down–which may even out). In the end, about 140ish of those offered the Trustee end up matriculating to USC. In most cases, these students have also been admitted to Yale, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, etc. etc. etc. You can see by looking at posts from previous years who ends up where in the final count, but many ultimately fall in love with USC at ExploreUSC even though they have many top choices to consider.

I attended with my son last year and was really glad I did. I wasn’t sold on USC before that, but definitely left knowing it was the school for him.

Is explore usc up for any east coast applicants?
