Hi, I just received a mail from Michigan Ann Arbor asking for an “Expression of Continued Interest” due to February 1st. I haven’t received any other information about my application status an it is supposed to be released on 24th of December. Does this mean that I am definitely deferred or can it be asked for anything else?
Decisions are out. That means you are deferred.
Look under the tab saying “Decision Postponed”
Interesting - I have never heard of Michigan admissions overtly asking for one before. Do you mind posting your stats/background?
@yikesyikesyikes. Michigan this cycle is asking students that were deferred /postponed to write a 250 word “Expression of Continued Interest.” first time for everything. Plus they are asking for first semester grades to be sent.
This ask should reduce the amount of students that will continue on…
Note : There is a February 1st deadline.
PS: guess you didn’t read the recent threads… Lol ?
Happy Holidays.
Wow, yeah - just read through the EA results. Interesting approach they are taking. Not sure how I feel about it.
@yikesyikesyikes. Same. It’s already angering people but as an aside programs like Georgia Tech 3 years ago asked for a written statement if a student were staying in the process. This is just more formalized. Plus they want grades prior to February… Maybe it will weed out people that really don’t want to go on or not. Not sure.
The preliminary stats will be out soonish but the amount of higher stat kids both accepted and deferred seems to be higher this year, just on the eye test.
It seems like an effort to weed out applicants where U-M is not their first choice (including those accepted ED/EA to other schools). However, at this stage it adds another level of stress to those who really want to go to Michigan. I’d rather they do this when they hand out wait-list in April.
It asks me to send Fall Term Grades of my senior year. But it also says “Checklist complete. All required admissions materials received.”.

Look at the statement about postponed. Yes, I agree it might be slightly confusing. Call /write admissions and or your AO… It’s a valid question and a nice light touch to them at Michigan. This is a new process for them also.
Do you guys know if it is similar to letter of continued interest? Like should we include improvements we might’ve made or just share how michigan can help our interests. Also do you know when decisions might come out?
Basically I would take it as you were deferred, but you are ranked a bit higher among the deferred applicants. In this case, they want to see who is serious about attending and who is not. So maybe somebody who got into another school of choice might just be like forget it. You should write one if you are genuinely interested in attending, not if an acceptance would be just for boosting your ego.
If you do choose to write one, think of it as two parts. What attracts you to the university, and why you think you are a great candidate. You should not just regurgitate your application, but try to think about maybe what updates you have since submitting your application.
Hello, I have to write my LOCI and I thought it has specific question that states ‘’ In 250 words or less, describe how your personal educational goals connect to the University of Michigan’s mission and values.‘’
Does anyone know what is exactly University of Michigan’s Mission and Values? I looked it up and it seems each department has different mission and values and I am confused. For instance, I am applying to LSA - Undecided and it has LSA and UMich seems to have different mission. Which one should I go with?
Here is the link for both if anyone needs it:

From previous threads and responses, I heard UMich release their RD on 3 different days, starting from around Feb 1st, March 1st and April 1st. For those who are Postponed and moved to RD, does anyone know when they release decision for Post phoned people? I would like to get decision on Feb 1st but as the LOCI is due Feb 1st, it seems March or after would be more reasonable.
Last, does anyone know approximate chance of postponed students to get accepted, especially for LSA?
Thank you and Happy New Year!!!
No one outside of admissions would know that one. But UMich does accept about the other half of acceptances (7,500-ish) in RD. % would depend on the amount of total apps.
Also, there are sometimes “here and there” releases of RD decisions in between the bigger “waves” on or about 2/1, 3/1 and 4/1. Also, FYI, there have been waitlisted applicants that have heard as late as June and July.
And postponed = deferred.
@richbilly. Great question. I read it as the presidents message. It’s concise enough.
It even implies the Michigan moto or Arts, knowledge and truth in it if you read it again.
Many will point to the “Leaders and Best” line in the fight song, "The Victor’s ", as a way to describe Michigan overall.
But… How does this all apply to you? They already know about this stuff… Lol
Hi, I got deferred and have to write an expression of continued interest. It says “please submit this form by February 1st.” … Does this mean I can turn it in ON Feb 1st? Or do I have to do it by midnight tonight??
I just got accepted to Michigan without even filling out the continued interest form! How is that possible?? Did they make a mistake?
Loci was always optional. But Congratulations!
Thanks!
