This is the discussion for all of us who were deferred, let’s keep our fingers crossed for RD!
If I don’t hear back in February, I’m not a happy lad.
Any advice for writing the expression of continued interest essay?
There are a lot of those Deferred under RD thread including LOCI suggestions
Everyone that’s deferred, postponed or RD can head over into this thread:
Any thoughts on if decisions can be released without mid-term grades? Not sure our school will make it in time for the Feb 1 st release. OOS applicant.
If your school can’t get it there by Feb 1 call or email them and ask them. Don’t want to give you bad information.
From UMich website:
https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/freshmen-applicants/selection-process
Now, here’s my opinion. UMich may admit you, or not, without the midyear grade update, but call admissions and get their answer. But your stats, as submitted, could be enough to get you an acceptance on or about 1/31. Or UMich may decide to continue to delay your decision until the next waves.
Thanks for your advice. I am sure they will want them as rigor was increased this year. I will call the HS school first as they may be able to rush them. I keep hearing some are asked for them in the wording of the portal message and some are not. Curious… what do you think?
Is there a second wave of acceptances for EA applicants or if one does not hear in the first wave is he/she moved to regular decision?
EA deferred applicants are now considered RD. Read back a page or two. There are 3 large RD waves. One wave is complete.
Hi, I am here to help as I understand as I was deferred two years ago. I have heard rumors that the next wave of admissions comes out tomorrow- February 28th before the University Spring Break (so that they don’t get calls over the break).
There are a couple ways that counselors are looking to ensure some last minute acceptances. These include:
-Ensuring that you email your territory counselor and ask three specific questions about a particular LSA/ SMTD/ Engineering program. Include asking them to connect you to specific teachers in the department you want to major in. Showing interest in internships is a good question to ask such as “What are the programs to help students get into internships” or “How does the university work to help the freshman experience”.
-Ensuring that you say that U of M is your #1 school. If applicable, include videos, photos, or music that describes your passions for U of M. These help you stand out.
-Lastly, I am unsure if this is true or not but it has been said that some counselors accept “donations”. These can come in the form of gift cards, or cash donations via venmo. It is more difficult to disguise these but I have heard in the past these have worked.

Also my previous post was obviously a joke if no one could tell
started out fine, went downhill from there. lol
Has anyone heard from UMich? When do they release decisions for deferred applicants?
I applied EA and my admission was postponed. I ended up being accepted in late January. I never submitted a LOCI and I didn’t submit my mid year report until mid February.
