Do you think MIT will extend it again this year? I submitted mine, but was just curious...

What ?

They extended it to January 3rd last year. At least from what I can tell.

What’s the point?

whoaness, why did they do that?

I was just curious. I mean, I know that a lot of other schools have deadlines on the same night and people often have to cut their losses (Not that MIT is a loss, but it is a long app) to submit as many apps as possible (it’s sad, but true. I know quiet a few procrastinators who did this). So… my friend and I were discussing how a lot of schools have extended their deadlines (like I heard that this year Yale is still setting their official deadline at Jan 1st but will accept them till the 3rd or 4th).
So… I was just curious. especially since they did it last year.
And the point would be that those who got it in, say, three mins after the deadline (check the threads… at least four of those topics) might be able to take a deep breath and chill.

lol. I thought 12npm12 was exclamating. it was a name -.-

oh and here’s the link

[MIT Admissions | Blog Entry: "MIT Regular Action Deadline Extended to January 3 "](http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/misc/miscellaneous/mit_regular_action_deadline_ex.shtml)

I’m still not sure why they did it… but they did. haha

What?! Why did I submit it then? O.o That’s gay. Dude, gay. Super gay. I messed up my essay and was forced to submit it because of the time.

Hey I’m not saying that they will, I was just wondering if they will.

Hell if they extend the deadline it won’t be fair. It would be immoral.

ahahaha. agreed. but it would be nice for some, I’m sure.

MrPanda: I submitted my application on Dec 31th :)

I think at least they will treat a bit unequally between those submitting on Jan 1st and those with Jan 3rd. Even so, I can see in the link that that blog was posted on Jan 3rd, and the extended deadline last year was also Jan 3rd. So I guess this is on purpose: they wanted to give another chance for only those who had finished the application but missed the deadline accidentally and desperately wanted to submit the application (thus, these people would check the blog every minute. And that’s the reason why they wouldn’t miss it again)

I agree, they shouldn’t extend their deadlines.

Wait, is there any way to change our app once we’ve submitted? Otherwise the extension is a little unfair

Last year, I saw that announcement definitely before Jan 3rd, and probably before Jan 1st. I’m pretty sure that they’ll accept applications that were just 3 minutes late, whoaness.

confused92: No.

If a school extends their deadlines they need to announce it at least 1-2 days prior to the original deadline so as not to disadvantage those who would have submitted at the last minute.

I wish they would have mentioned it sooner, lol… but no biggie imo.

Usually deadlines are only extended when extenuating services might disadvantage some students. For example, if they have a server failure on 31 December which would cause significant delays in submitting applications, then they are almost certain to extend the deadline. Without external reasons, deadlines are not normally extended.
