Extended Waitlist Thread

Hey guys! So I wanted to start this thread because I can't stand the wait alone. I was wondering: Who else is on the extended and do y'all plan to send anymore materials to admissions?

I’m on the extended. I’m not sure if I’m sending anything else though, at this point idk what would be left for me to send besides a final transcript since I sent a letter and stuff when I was wait listed the first time. What are you considering doing?

I think I going to just send my official transcript. I didn’t know if sending a second of letter of interest would be considered pushy lol. I have no idea how I got waitlisted, let alone extended and I don’t want to put too much stock into getting a spot. If I don’t, I’m heading to a public college in California not far from my hometown.

any updates from anyone?

I received a letter from Georgetown today stating that I was not accepted off of the Extended Wait List. Do all of the letters say this? I don’t want to be baited and switched into the transfer application process if all the letters say the same thing and any admissions advantage as a transfer would be negligible.

“The Committee on Admissions noted your strong and continued interest in Georgetown and has asked me to advise you of the possibility of transferring to Georgetown after one or two years at another institution. While we hope that you will find the institution in which you enroll to be exciting and challenging, you will be given strong consideration should you decide to apply as a transfer candidate and your academic work continues to be outstanding.”

^ You know what, I’m not quite sure. That paragraph has all the elements both of a standard rejection letter and a special “you can always transfer wink wink nudge nudge” version. It doesn’t sound to be guaranteed, so if you apply next year you’ll still be at the whims of admissions, but if you have a strong freshman record I’d imagine you’d have a great shot at getting in.

I’d definitely wait and see what the other Extended Waitlist people got. I never bothered to respond to the extended offer, and they sent me this: “A review of our files on May 30, 2014 indicates that we have not received a response from you regarding your position on our Waiting List. The Admissions Committee has now asked that your application be removed from further consideration.” So don’t worry, not everyone on the extended list was super dedicated to GU and I believe that’ll make the applicants who WERE stand out even more.

Best of luck. If you decide to apply later, I hope you get in

Thank you for your insightful reply! You were spot on about the mixed message of the letter, which was what concerned me the most in the first place.

After receiving replies from other people as well, it seems that what I received was just the standard letter that Georgetown sent to whoever was not accepted off the Extended Wait List who chose to remain on it.

If I do decide to apply to transfer in the coming years, it’ll boil down to personal circumstances at the time so we’ll see. Again, thanks and I wish you best of luck wherever you are going!
