What happens during extended weekends? Do most students stay at school or go home?
At my kids’ school, there was one long weekend each trimester. The fall long weekend was connected to Family/Parent’s Weekend. For all 3, roughly 20-30% of kids would stay on campus during the weekend and the rest would be off campus for at least part of the weekend.
It really depends on the school and the student body. At our school, many students stayed on campus for the very few (2 per year) extended weekends because they lived too far away to go home. Some would go home with a friend. For the extended weekend during the winter, there was always a ski trip and often a college visit trip for students who wanted to see a variety of schools in a particular area (Boston, DC.) At many BS, the academic calendar is set up to minimize long weekends.
I’m glad they have something to do. She will be 2.5 hour drive away from home one way so she will have to stay in campus. They have two per year at Taft.
At Deerfield the fall one is aligned with parents weekend so we will go then. From what I can tell during the winter one DD’s athletic team seems to do a training trip out of state.
