Extra curriculars?

Im wondering if I could get into William and Mary or a school equal to that? My problem is I'm a junior in highschool and have never joined a club or played a sport!! I did volunteer this summer, and plan to again next summer and also get some work experience. My GPA is currently 4.470( my school has a five point scale for pre and AP classes) my courses this year are AP English, Ap human geography, Spanish 4, pre calculus, AP physics(harder than I thought it would be btw), AP biology,Latin 1, and a dual enrollment with James Madison university: sociology and literature. I've already taken AP us history and scored a 5 on the AP exam. What are my chances? Should I try for a club or sport?!( I live really far away from the school so homework and studying would be hard) can I get by doing things outside of school? Side note: AP physics... Is it better to try and get a low b than not try at all? It's too late now to change but I'm nervous... Thanks!

Do you do things outside of school or in your local community? Having a limited amount of ECs can be tough and I understand the struggle, but schools like W&M are generally looking for students that are involved. What are your standardized test scores like? Are you taking a rigorous schedule/near the top of your class? All sorts of things play a role in your acceptance. Having strong LOR and essays will definitely help. If it is too late to change AP physics, try your best in the class and definitely seek out help. One of my greatest lessons in HS is that teachers are more than willing to help students who are putting in effort and tackling a difficult subject.

Remember, not all ECs have to be in school, but it is important to have a resume showing that you are more than just an academic robot. I currently attend W&M, so if you have any questions about the school let me know

Thanks! And I live your icon btw:). I’m it sure where I am in my class, but I don’t think it’s low or anything, and I’m taking the hardest classes I can. I haven’t taken my sats yet, so I’m not sure about those… If my school has any better ecs I’ll try and join a club, but otherwise I’ll look around and try and do things to prove I’m not just pretty smart. I also have a quick question- on college resumes do they ask for school related extracurriculars or is it just a spot to list everything you’ve done that is interesting?

Glad you like it! The list on common app is generally for all your ec’s regardless of whether it is inside or outside of school.

Yea, I would count your volunteering as an extracurricular. You could either volunteer at more places or join a small club at your school. Even if you are late in joining, it can only help your chances! Best of luck!
