extra curriculars

hey, so I’ve done:
Model United Nations ( 2 years)
co-founded sat club
managed cooking club
Rachel’s challenge
job shadowed the field I’m interested in
and have done plenty of voulenteer
I want to be a physical therapist if that helps… but my question is how do I package my extra curriculars to colleges like what should be my theme

What courses have you taken in HS? What colleges are you looking at? Any special hobbies?

Perhaps you can write about why you want to become a physical therapist and also why you love the things that you do currently. Your EC’s dont always have to match what you want to study.

I’ve taken chemistry, biology, earth science, physics, anatomy and physiology, AP bio, phycology, probs and stats, geometry ,algebra 1 82, individual and society, philosophy and honors critical writing and other history classes and stuff and okay ty I also might want to study psychology

Ok, I think you can “package” some of your EC’s together, especially the service ones. I think you have some great material to write about in your essays, perhaps Rachel’s challenge, cooking, etc.

For the common app just be yourself and write about what matters to you. In the supplemental essays you can perhaps explain why you want to do physical therapy/psychology, etc.

Another tip is to be sure you are targeting the right schools. How is your GPA? Standardized test scores? Those actually matter the most in the application process, as it will most likely determine if you are “on the table.” The essay is there to push you over the edge and make you stand out. But, if your grades and scores aren’t as strong, admissions counselors will have diminished interest in the rest of your application, unless you have some sort of special hook (minority, first-gen, etc).

Scores also have diminishing effects though. A 1260 vs 1310 is big difference, but a 1530 vs 1580 not so much, even though both have 50 pts difference. The higher your scores the less difference they make. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much it does and I am a black female and my dad never went to college and my mom did for 1 year my gpa is a 2.6 and my sat was a 930 but I’m going to take the ACT instead and again thank you

no problem! just try your best to keep your grades up in first semester senior year (colleges ask for the first semester score report) and do your best on the standardized tests. Try to get a review book and do as many practice questions as you can. Idk what schools you are looking at, but I think you’ll have a good chance at some very decent schools given your “hooks.” Good luck
