Stanford seems to really discourage extra materials. I was curious if anybody sent anything. If so, what?

I sent a research abstract.

i sent nothing...although i guess i shoulda sent in my research abstract as well...whatever...

i sent a flute cd, and the optional rec. from my flute teacher

Oh, the optional rec too, from a stanford prof who taught a topology class I took last summer

Sent the optional rec from my journalism teacher

I sent in a violin CD, but I would have sent in a research abstract if I had known we could have.

optional rec from a teacher involved in an EC

How did you guys send in the research abstract? Did you just put it along with the application and hope they read it? Do you know if they will even review it or send it to the appropriate department for evaluation?

I did the app online and sent the abstract separately. My college counselor calls the admissions people at some point, and she'll double check that they got it. Not sure what happens after that.

Ok. I called Stanford, and the person who answered said the ad coms may or may not look at the abstract. He said it couldn't hurt to send it...the worst that could happen is they don't look at it.

how many of you guys sent in the optional rec?

optional rec from a sophomore year teacher who i was really close with.
