Hey guys. I was wondering whether yale, or any other ivy for that matter, would notify outside recommenders when they receive their letter of recommendation. so not hs teachers but rather people like research mentors, etc. Any ideas? thanks

Probably not. As far as I know, they don't notify teachers when they receive their recommendations either.... that's a lot of people to have to contact. If you're worried that your rec didn't reach your file, call up the admissions office and ask them to confirm. Or email your regional advisor... they usually email back within a day or two.

Thanks. I was just wondering because my mentor didn't get any notification, but my friend's recommender got a thank you letter back from yale or harvard (don't remember)..their recommender was some congressman or something

does anyone know what that means?

probably means they were being nice up to a powerful potential friend. I don't think it means anything in terms of your chances of admission

oh thanks. so i guess that means the rec helped my friend but mine prolly didn't make much of a difference...i know mine was really short and probably didn't tell the admissions committee anything they didn't already know.
