I was deferred EA, but Georgetown is definitely my first choice school. I want to show that I am still interested, but I don't want to hassle the admissions office. Does anyone think that an extra letter of rec (not from a teacher) would be a good idea? And/or a personal note from me explaining my continued interest? Thanks for any advice!

How about a nice, concise letter saying that you are still very interested, you are continuing to pursue an academically rigorous schedule and perform well, you are participating in ____ and competing in ____ .

Also a rec that is truly personal might give you a boost.

would it be okay to send the letter after the January 10 regular application deadline?

I'm not sure of that. As long as the letter has a postmark of January 10th, you should be fine; other than that, I don't think it will be accepted.

Another letter of recommendation would not hurt your chances; it may give a boost to your application, and maybe show the admissions officers another side of you. As long as you don't send more than one extra (I believe if they got many letters, they'd think you were trying to hide something), I think it will definitely help.

Necrophiliac's idea is a very useful alternative, especially if you can't make that deadline.
