Well I was applying ED to Columbia and EA to Fordham. Columbia needed 2 letters of recommendation from teachers, of course. I assumed Fordham was the same. So I gave my 2 teachers 2 envelopes. Therefore Fordham will get 2 letters of recommendation. But on their site they said they just need 1. I already told my teachers to send it when they finish writing it.

Agree. They will read anything you send them. Fordham is not like some schools (UNC is one of them…grrrrrr) who punish you for sending more information than they explicitly request.

Just be sure that they are good recommendations or don’t tarnish you indirectly by saying, “this student really wants to go to Columbia but Fordham is second fiddle.”

I’m a current student (and former student worker in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions) so I thought I’d help! While Fordham requires only one letter of recommendation from applicants (this must be from your high school guidance counselor), it is perfectly acceptable to send letters from teachers as well. I wouldn’t reccomend sending too many (two is a good amount), but it won’t hurt you in any way to send more than the one required letter. Remember, quality over quantity!

Hello I am currently a Sophomore at Fordham in RHS. I do not think that the one extra letter will matter. If it was a couple extra it may have been different but just having one extra letter cant hurt you, I think that it will only benefit you.

Send 'em. D had an appointment with the “Alumni College Advising Pprogram” counselor at our alma mater (this is set up to mollify potentially disappointed alums whose kids will not get into Dear Old AM). Said lady said go ahead and send two or three if that is what you have. The AO will read whatever you send.

What they don’t want is 15 of them!

It is 3 in our case because two are from teachers of academic core subjects, and the third is the art teacher/independent study advisor. D wants to go into design.
