Extracurricular question

Hello! I’ve noticed that people of cc really know how to pursue their passion, and the things they do are really amazing. I really like ceramics and pottery and was wondering what I could do to show my interest, for example what competitions or maybe I should start a club?

You want to stand out, right? Starting a club shows you can do some minimal organizing. Meh. Hobbyists gather together to pursue their hobby. Nothing earth shattering.

Why don’t you investigate something larger? Like starting a pgm for under privileged youth from a nearby school district or other the elderly center or something where you’ll add to the community around you?

So what are your goals as a ceramicist? Are you looking to increase your range of techniques? Your skills? Your knowledge of your craft? Are you interested in the history of ceramics? Where can you take advanced classes? Does your interest enable you to connect with people you might otherwise not get to know? Talk to your ceramics teacher about what you can do to improve your work. Are there opportunities for you to exhibit the work you are especially proud of along with other amateurs? Is your work good enough to sell either on-line or at craft fairs? Have you traveled to see special exhibits by other artists? Or do you like sharing your skills by teaching pottery to others? (Try volunteering at senior centers, nursing homes, after school programs…)

When someone says, ‘why do you like to make pottery?’ what do you tell them? Give this some serious thought and it will guide your next steps.
