Extracurricular Topic? c:

Hi. (: I'm kind of stuck on which extracurricular I ought to write about for my Common App, and I was hoping to get some input from you wonderful CC'ers. My options are:

to write about my summer internship at a large engineering company; this internship relates to my major of choice (at the moment) and it's one of those 'unique' experiences.

to write about my passion for education and tutoring other students for free at all grade levels.

to write about why I quit Speech and Debate - a.k.a. a story in which I uphold my own morals at the expense of one of my favorite extracurriculars.

My apologies if I'm extremely vague here - I'm just paranoid, haha. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

Your essay should tell the reader something about you. It also helps to be entertaining. Reciting what you did all day as an intern is kind of boring. Weaving in how you have been building robots since you were a kid, First Robotics in HS, and you got to do even more as an intern would be interesting.

“passion” “tutoring other students for free” - is that for real, or are you just trying to suck up? They can tell. Now if you are applying for elementary education, maybe. But then, why did you do an engineering internship?

Why you quit Speech and Debate is dicey. You never want to be negative. Always show things in a positive light. Never talk down about the other side.
