Basically my school didn't allow me to join Calc Club, NHS, etc because I didn't "qualify" (like for example to be in Calc Club, you have to be in AP Calc). So that means next year I'll have about 7+ ECs. But I just finished reading silverturtle's guide that said that colleges aren't fond of people busting EC's to look good.

So.. will schools cut me some slack, or will it be rejection?

P.s. I forgot to mention, I’m not “purposely” busting out ECs to look good (like I am because seriously, who isn’t?). I actually truly love math and cultures… And NHS… I don’t know sounds fun

As long as you are showing commitment and dedication to your extracurriculars you should be fine. When schools say they don’t like people doing tons of extra curriculars, they are talking about those people who are members of like 15 clubs but only spend like one or two hours a week doing those clubs. Personally, I am in 3 clubs and a sport, and i always feel busy with the activities i have going. 7 seems excessive, but if you can pull it off, and do well in all of them (maybe lead a few?) then you should be fine.

Btw, i don’t know about calc club, but NHS really isn’t a huge deal. I’ve heard a lot of people say that NHS is almost a given when you are applying to a school like colombia, so clubs like that are nice to be in but aren’t a huge deal. If you can become president though…

Thanks for responding. I’m definitely trying for Secretary my junior year and hopefully president senior year :)
