Hi there. I’m starting uni at a top university in my country this fall(it’s top in my country but isn’t even close to the top 100 or so world ranking. Also from what I’ve gathered my country seems to have a bit of a reputation for plagiarism). I’m doing a straight Econ major and I really want to transfer to a top school in the US(my no.1 absolute dream school is Columbia) for my junior year.
My questions are:
What type of extracurriculars would those top schools want to see from a potential economics major?
Does opening some type of a small business seem fit for an econ major?
Should I do extracurriculars for the minor(I’m aiming for Philosophy) as well?
Do you think I have any chance at all?
(Some more things about my profile if it might help in any way:
-I took the SAT last year and scored 1400(math+reading). With two more years to revise I’m certain I can do much better.
-My O levels grades were A, B, B, C, C. These are the highest qualifications I have at the moment.
-My extracurriculars up until this moment are very bland. Mostly sports, some community works. Also translation works and tutoring here and there.
-I’d rather apply for financial aid, at least for the part time job because I wouldn’t be able to work in the US otherwise but if not applying helps my overall application in any way, I’m prepared to pay the full price)
Thank you in advance to anyone who answers.
