Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences. (150 word limit)

Does this question only pertain to things listed under the activities section in the Common App or can I choose to talk about a hobby of mine instead that I don't have any accomplishments/awards in but simply enjoy doing? I already spent my entire Common App essay talking about my most important EC activity and the rest of mine aren't really worth elaborating on.

Since it does explicitly say that it must pertain to what you listed in your CA, I’d say go for it!

@lottechar Did you mean to say “doesn’t” instead of “does”? :/

Feel free to talk about anything that you care about. These help the adcoms understand who you are better and thus explain anything that would help portray who you are and what makes you well rounded.

Many applicants use this essay part, CA or not (usually the prompt that asks the student to elaborate on an EC) to talk about a different activity that is not listed in the “activities” section of the CA due to no space or some other reason.

My friend, for example, talked about Jazz Band, a middle school interest he saw no need to list under his “activities” section of the CA.

Basically, talk about anything you want. Anything that will help you “elaborate” on who YOU are and help the adcoms get a better picture of YOU.

Good luck!

Thanks to everyone for your helpful replies!

@Constantius I meant ‘doesn’t’ (that’s what I get for staring at the computer screen for too long.)

@lottechar Haha, I understand that feeling all too well. ;))
