I started filling out the Common App today and I realized that I have very few extracurriculars, but one that eats up my time and energy. Do colleges get... bored when they see the same commitment in the Common App essay, the activities section, an additional recommendation, the "describe an activity" short essay thing, and the GC recommendation? I have a dearth of other activities and this one thing is actually really important to me, but I wouldn't know if other people care LOL.

Yes, they do get bored if you keep presenting it in the same way and talking about the same things repeatedly.

Your description in the Activities section should be very straightforward and description of what you did. The Activity short essay can expand more about what you’ve accomplished, where you want to go with it, etc.; however, it too is usually a basic, descriptive essay. If you really want to also talk about this EC in your main CA essay as well, take a very different tact and use some creativity/voice/POV to make it an essay that only you could write.

Supplemental LORs should address something about your personality/drive/leadership/etc. that is not discussed in your teacher or GC LORs.

Oh wow thanks! I’m toying with the idea of only touching on my extracurricular in passing in my Common App essay, because right now I dedicate a couple of sentences explaining what I do specifically. So should I save this for the Activity short essay? Not all colleges require an Activity short essay though…

They don’t have the EC short essay anymore, do they?

^^ a lot of college’s supplements now include short essays such as, “briefly describe one of your extra curricular activities”.

I know for a fact Harvard does.
